Where can I roller skate outside in Hertfordshire?

If you are looking for recommendations for smooth paths to roller skate on outside, look no further. Here are our top tips:

The Alban Way (6 miles)

One of our favourite spots for roller skating is the Alban Way (pictured above). The Alban Way is follows a disused railway line surrounded by glorious nature between St Albans and Hatfield.  The surface is wonderfully smooth, well maintained and almost always flat.

This makes it great for all abilities (including complete outdoors-skating newbies). But we do recommend going earlier or later in the day as it can get busy with families, dog-walkers and cyclists in the middle of the day.

The route does include a couple of road crossings and a bridge. If you aren’t comfortable skating these, then sticking to the sheltered cycle path sections and looping back on yourself when you reach these obstacles is still a great workout.

Tatem Park Speed Skating Track

Tatem Park in North London has an outdoor national standard speed-skating rink, which has been used for national championships. It’s a slightly banked track and great for skating a few laps with a picnic in the sunshine!

Oxhey Activity Park Skate Park

Relatively new – the skate park in Oxhey Activity Park has a mix of street obstacles, a wide mini ramp and a smooth skate run.

There’s also some lovely even paths running through and alongside the skate park.

Gadebridge Park

Gadebridge Park in Hemel Hempstead is rich with history, gardens, green space, and most importantly, lovely smooth paths. The paths have recently been refurbished too. And if you’re up for the challenge there’s a skate park down by the river.

Once you’ve worked up an appetite skating, you can visit the kiosk which sells drinks, snacks and vegan sausage rolls.

Hartham Common

Hartham Common in Hertford, is a level, smooth route that loops around a nice green park surrounded by a river and canal.
